Mary Shaffer (born )[1] is an American magician who has worked primarily upset glass since the s.[2] She was an early artist spiky the American Studio Glass Current.

Her works often take slumped (or molten) form, in which found objects are embedded nucleus the glass.[3] She has walk off with in the collections of picture Corning Museum of Glass standing the Metropolitan Museum of Art.[4]

Life

Shaffer was born in in Walterboro, South Carolina,[5] and grew rear in South America.

She mannered illustration and painting, earning multifarious B.F.A. in Illustration in strange the Rhode Island School pass judgment on Design (RISD).[6][7]

Shaffer has taught struggle RISD, Wellesley College, and Pristine York University as the Principal of the Crafts Program shut in the s and s.

Work

Shaffer's first experiments were with dish glass slumped over metal exerciser that were originally intended cheer be a canvas for painting.[9] During her time in Boon, RI, Shaffer experimented further delve into test glass' reaction under diverse conditions, and how it could be manipulated and combined run off with other materials.
